Configure your agent's identity, greeting, and voice
Set how your receptionist introduces itself, describes your business, and what voice it speaks in.
After the AI builder creates your receptionist, you can fine-tune exactly how it presents itself on calls. This article covers the identity settings, greeting, timezone, and voice selection.
Prerequisites
A receptionist has been created using the builder chat.
You are the workspace Owner, Admin, or Member.
Open the Business tab
From the sidebar, select your receptionist under Receptionists.
Select the Business tab in the navigation bar.
Scroll to the Identity section.
Business description
The Business description field tells the receptionist what your business does, who you serve, and your key offerings. The receptionist uses this text when a caller asks general questions about your business.
Example: "Downtown Family Dental is a general dentistry practice serving patients of all ages in Chicago. We offer cleanings, fillings, crowns, Invisalign, and emergency dental care."
Click Save after editing.
Greeting
The Greeting field is the first thing a caller hears when the receptionist picks up. Keep it short and natural.
Example: "Thank you for calling Downtown Family Dental, how can I help you today?"
Click Save after editing.
Timezone
Select your business's local timezone from the Timezone dropdown. The receptionist uses this to interpret opening hours correctly and to read back appointment times in the right timezone.
Change the voice
Select the Voice tab in the navigation bar.
Browse the voice cards. Each card shows the voice name, gender, and style.
Click the play button on any card to hear a live preview.
Click a card to select it. The selection saves automatically and you'll see a "Voice updated" confirmation.
What to expect
Changes to the identity and greeting take effect on the next incoming call. Voice changes apply immediately after the confirmation appears. There is no need to click Go live again after editing these settings.
Troubleshooting
The greeting sounds different from what I typed. The receptionist uses the greeting text as a starting point but may rephrase it slightly for natural flow. For a strict verbatim greeting, keep it short and conversational.
The voice card is playing but I don't hear audio. Check that your browser tab is not muted. Click the stop button and try the preview again.
